SPECIAL SERVICE PROJECTS

As we know,
Rotary Clubs all over the world undertake projects to improve the living conditions of people in developing or underdeveloped regions.
This club has sent, for example, several farm tractors to Ecuador, in the past. I know Bud is working on another international project, now.
Recently, the Rotary Club of Moree, (M-o-r-e-e) in New South Wales, Australia came upon a special need and moved to satisfy it. Moree has a population of 9,300 and is noted for its part in the cotton growing industries of the county.
The club was involved in a special project building an aids clinic in New Guinea. Many of the team members were there for two weeks. While they were there they learned about another situation that they could help with.
Apparently, the women in this underdeveloped area had particular difficulty obtaining bras.
The Club became interested in the problem. They asked members and local residents for support and to donate unwanted bras.
These items were desperately required, for the women, in remote parts of Australia and Papua New Guinea.
The Club proposed the project and it was accepted, as an international service project. It resulted in the donation of many garments.
On a subsequent visit to the aids clinic, members took a large amount of donated goods and the large collection of bras .
Several of the men in the group volunteered to help in the bra distribution , but the women agreed they had plenty of other work to do. The clinic served as the distribution point and garments were given to hospital staff, patients and their families,…. and any other women they came in contact with.
All the local women were delighted and very grateful, they report.
So, the moral, here is that there are infinite service projects. … and they all result in an uplifting feeling for members. There are many broad choices that we can consider as we look for projects.
