SUSSEX COUNTY - A HISTORY

One of the most ambitious projects that we have done is the publication of this book.

It was published in 1964.

It was written by Warren D. Cummings, a real historian, and a member of the Newton High faculty. Illustrations were by Bill & Bonnie Rutherford.

This is the edition held in the archives… It has signatures of many members as well as a great many Club Presidents. The final entry was 98-99  - Laura Camp.     Can we get some other presidents, since then to sign this book ???

I do want to note that of all the signatures, Buzz   - Sherman Tomasino – is the most legible.

While this is in the archive, I bought an edition on ebay, a few years ago without knowing the connection to Rotary.

The final page discusses “WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?” which I found particularly interesting:

1)   Tocks Island development: This should bring many benefits and associated problems

2)   The completion of Rt 80 and widening of Rtes 23 & 206 will make us more desirable as a residential area and a prime location for new factories.

3)   The author feared that we would be added to the vast metropolitan complex that stretches from Boston to Washington… and that we would lose our rural identity.

I read, in another account, that it was updated and reprinted in 1984…. Does anyone have any info on this edition???
