THE CLUB DURING THE 1930’s

The club was very involved, in the community, during this period of economic distress. I culled most of these tidbits from a history prepared for our 50th anniversary (1955). Frankly, we sound too good to be true. However, this is what I learned:

We as a Club:

A)  Furnished  school lunches to all needy students of Newton.

B)   Paid for  eye glasses for needy Newton students

C)   Furnished  surgical care, if needed to students. I guess the doctor members contributed this care.

D)  Established and maintained awards for athletics, at the high school

E)   Sponsored lectures by Frank Jewell Raymond  - A noted business expert and lecturer of national stature. I looked this guy up and he seemed to be as famous and influential as Jack Welsh (GE)

F)   Started the Boy Scouts, here; led the  drive to establish  the Hospital; developed playgrounds;  and planted trees  through the town.

WOW – What a legacy we have !!!!
