RICHARDSON BUIST (Dick)
Some of you may know him, or know of him. But, one of our members with the longest years of service is Richardson Buist (Dick). He joined in 1958 making him a member of this club for 54 years. Check the roster, and you’ll see that he’s still a dues paying member.
I want to tell you about him:
NJ Herald- Business Mgr & Publisher – 1953-71
Midlantic Bank – Trust Officer 1971-1990
He was also President of Morford Conservation Co. – starting in 1987
Some of his community service activities include:
Newton Rotary – Pres. 1967-68; Paul Harris Fellow since 1988
He’s been treasurer of the Sussex County Horse Show; Director of the NJ Preservation Assoc; Director of Amer Cancer Society – Sussex County; Director of the Sussex County Music Foundation; He’s been affiliated with the Boy Scouts; Newton Memorial Hospital; Regional Health Planning Council and the United Way.
He lived on Sand Pond Road, in Hamburg but moved to Basking Ridge.
His wife Dr Jean Buist was a Veterinarian with a practice in Sparta. She was active with Dick on many of his projects.
She died Nov 12 2008
This Club honored Dick for his service with a special
award for SERVICE ABOVE SELF, which we awarded to him in 1993
Although Dick, hasn't attended any recent meetings, he still pays his dues. I forwarded this tribute to his e mail account.
I’ll be passing around a few of his press clippings for your further information.
