Newton - Mazuy Mills
CLAUDE MAZUY (M-a-z-u-y)
As you know, Bill Chapman, of Denville, started discussions that ultimately led to the start of the club, in 1923.
Claude Mazuy was one of the original charter members. He was also president for 1936-37
He owned Mazuy Mills which manufactured mainly fabric for corsets. In fact his original classification was “Stretch Cloth Manufacturer”. I believe this classification is now available.
He built his Newton plant at Clinton & Mill Street. Construction began in 1919 and cost $59,000. After several additions, the firm employed 370 people by 1940. It was merged in 1941 to form a new company now know as Darlington Fabrics, of Rhode Island.
Claude also was one of the founders of Selective Insurance
