1937 LA SALLE AMBULANCE

The early club was also very instrumental in establishing the Newton Hospital. Various equipment such as oxygen tents and other equipment were some of the early donations.  An ambulance was also donated in the late 1930’s.  A 1937 La Salle ambulance, that was used until 1951, when it was replaced by a Cadillac. The La Salle was retired to a storage shed at the J R Roof agency where it remained until 1971. It was eventually sold to a movie production company and was seen in several scenes of THEGODFATHER.

I’m sure you all remember this scene , when Don Corleone was transported to the hospital. The ambulance was our 1937 LaSalle.

Well, this Rotary Club had a “part” in the movie.

Show picture of ambulance from the movie.  Dewey Budd indicated that he remembered the driver of the ambulance “some very fat guy “.
