ADVENTURE IN SERVICE
1953 edition

Years ago, Rotary Clubs, including this Club gave new members a hard cover copy of a book titled “Adventure in Service”.

The book contained the story of Rotary, its origin, growth and influence.

Topics included:

How Rotary Started;  The Object of Rotary; and  Rotary and the Member,  among others.

I want to address the section called “Rotary Encircles the World”

After the 1st Club was established additional clubs followed fast.  San Francisco started in 1908.  By early 1909 other clubs were established in Oakland, Seattle and Los Angeles.

Later that year clubs were started in NY and Boston.

By Aug 1910 the 1st convention was held for the 1500 members and 16 clubs then in existence. By 1921, 100 clubs had been started in 16 different countries.

By the 1950’s, 10 annual conventions had been convened outside the US. Locations included Brazil, France, Scotland and Cuba among others.

Most people were very privileged to  receive the book and kept it as a reference and resource guide for their membership.

…. … Wait, I guess not every one retained their copy. Is Dewitt Budd here ?????

We then presented Dewy with the original copy of his book from March 15 1956.  It had been in the Club's archives until we represented it to Dewey in 2013
