   One of the first activities was sponsorship of the first boy scout troop.  We actively participated for many years until the troops were  transferred     to PTA and other similar organizations.

In these early years, we were also very instrumental in establishing a public playground. Newman Drake (not a charter member) was particularly generous, here. He purchased and donated the land for the park in 1928. The park eventually became “Memory Park”.

Drake was a “sweet” guy. He was the founder of Drake Baking Co. I’m sure you’ve had a “Drakes Cake”.  For you info, he bought the house at 27 Linwood Ave in 1917
