NEWTON ROTARY
Minutes November 01, 2023

Greenwich Mean Time has been replaced by Alice Time.  She rings the bell at exactly 12:15, not a second before or after.  Buzz led us in prayer and Denise started us in "America" two octaves too low.  There were no guests in attendance.  Nancy had prepared a welcome speech.  Because of that effort she welcomed no guests.  Alice led us in reciting the 4 Way Test.

Thirty-six percent of the members present were happy.  Mike Hanifan was happy his daughter will be home on leave.  That is what the Academies call semester break.  He is also happy for his involvement with the Sea Scouts.  Mike as grown this group of young people from the ground up.  Carolyn was happy to have attended the Gift of Life dinner with President Alice.  Carolyn was happy to report Mt. Sinai Hospital will become a partner in this program with Rotary.  Buzz was happy that Denise found a way to get a delinquent Rotarian to attend a meeting.  Invite him to be the speaker.  Alden was happy Steve was the speaker even though he did not understand a thing he said.  However, he was $5 happy that he will be able to tell his wife that we will be serenaded by the chorus from three local high schools during the holidays.

Steve McNally. a past president of our club, spoke to us on bankruptcy law.  There has been a long-convoluted period of time in its' evolution.   Often the law was not designed to help the debtor.  The last revision of bankruptcy code was in 1978.  Bankruptcy cases can only be heard in a Federal Court which means all such cases in Sussex County are heard in Newark.  At the end of the meeting, Steve tried to educate me on crypto currency.  His efforts failed.

Next week we will be meeting at the Romano Building at Newton Medical Center.  Manna House needs help every Tuesday and Thursday.  You should be at the Newton Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m..  Kudos to Denise and Barbara for all the effort they put into the homeless project.  Denise will need help in delivering duffels and back packs to Project Self Sufficiency.  This help is needed before next Wednesday's meeting.  Meet at Denise's barn at 10:30.

Carolyn won the 50/50 and took home $1000.  (Maybe we will have more than 11 members at our next meeting).  However, she did not pull the ace of spades.
