Bud Luthman led  the group in prayer which was followed by a beautiful rendition of America, America!

Guests:  We welcomed Lonnie Nechamkin.

Announcements:
Carolyn honored Larry Condit for his 40 years of service to the Rotary.

The tree planting was postponed but will take place on October 20 at 9 AM at Memory Park.  Pastor Todd Lattig will officiate.  Come if you can.

Homeless Project:  Please continue to bring the items needed each week.  Items requested for next week, October 24, are a hairbrush and comb.  Thank you for your continued support of this important project.

Mark your calendars for November 19 to help fill the backpacks with all the donated items … to be completed at Denise Current’s home.

Happy Dollars:

Tom Digby was asked 4 years ago – what is Rotary?   Tom said if he was asked that question today, he would reply … Rotary is friendship.  After his recent illness, he was very appreciative of the friendship extended to him.

Denise Current was happy to report that Laura Camp’s hip replacement surgery went well!

Pastor Alden was visiting at Bristol Glen and saw Fred Seplow.  Fred asked Alden to give a happy dollar and a big hello from him.

Barbara Miller was in Florida for two weeks … during the recent storms.  She is happy to report her house is okay but her heart is with those who suffered so much damage to their homes.

Barbara is happy that everyone is bringing goods for the Homeless Project each week.  She complimented the groups as being “good students”.

Carl is happy that Pam is walking and that Laura is doing well.

John Cuozzo is happy and admires the musical talent of the Sussex County high school students who are auditioning for the Best of Sussex County Concert to take place in November.

Carolyn is happy to report that this year’s New York run organized by her husband raised $200,000. Over the past 25 years they have raised $3 million.  She is also happy that everyone is back at school, their homes and her home is quiet.

Program:  Carolyn Ottenbreit introduced our program and guest, Carla Andersen from Andersen Farms.  Carla gave a wonderful demonstration and description of the process of making maple syrup on their farm.  Production is very dependent upon the weather.  Syrup has many surprising benefits from the minerals it contains which include helping with digestion as well as inflammation. They tap over 160 trees each year.  It takes 40-50 gallons of sap to produce 1 gallon of syrup.  Carla brought samples from their farm … which were delicious.

50/50: Carolyn won the 50/50!  … but not the pot.  Sorry Carolyn.

Carolyn closed the meeting at 1:05 PM.

REMINDERS:
