Guest speaker Florian Wehrli and his son Nohlan Wehrli shared a very heartfelt story about their family’s journey to the fundraising dinner, A Meal for Amiel in memory of Florian’s son Amiel.  They hadn’t lived in the Frankford community for more than six months before 11-year-old Amiel had a choking accident and died.  An unknown, underlying medical condition prevented him from being resuscitated.  The school and local community raised money to assist with the family’s medical bills.  Florian, a chef at the Metropolitan Opera, along with the chef’s community of New York and New Jersey have remembered Amiel by organizing regular dinner fundraisers to fund diverse programs.  Proceeds have benefited Frankford Elementary with a $50,000.00 green house, local school food pantries and various other food pantries.  Each dinner includes kids working alongside celebrity chefs to prepare a multiple course dinner.  Chefs and kids growing together for a greener, healthier, and tastier tomorrow.
