Some highlights about Durgatree
- Their mission is to educate and economically empower survivors of Modern Slavery.
- Durga Tree believes slavery is an economic disease and that most people don’t even know it exists or worse yet, know that we play a part in it.
- Modern Slavery is the 2nd largest black market industry in the world. Of those enslaved, some are trapped in forced labor and sex trafficking. The victims span all demographics yet the one thing in common is that the victims are vulnerable which makes them an easy target.
- Durga Tree philosophy is that they believe it is the basic human right of all individuals to have personal freedom. The organization works on programs and projects to help empower and educate the victims through community, donors and partner organizations to make this happen.
Pres. Charles was bringing meeting to a close, and Carl asked to say a few words. Carl thanked all those who helped out at the fair and special thanks to John Roberts. John helped Carl shop and according to Carl, that is quite the experience. So good job John! Carl also gave a special shout out to Jim Taylor. Jim spent several long days at the fair booth when others were not, Carl named him MVP of the Rotary Fair Booth. Congratulation Jim!! Jim and John both received some funny trophies from Carl for their efforts! Addtionally, the booth grossed $26,000. Final numbers TBD. Interesting info that Carl shared: $1 million dollars has passed through our booth register since we opened! WE need all people to help out to continue such great success.
Golf Outing info:
Bob McCraken talked about our outing. Informed us that it is coming together. If anyone currently has any questions, they are to email Bob directly, as this is the best way to communicate.
Pres. Charles reminded everyone to check the Bulletin for more announcements.
