Newton, New Jersey                   December 16, 2020                  Carolyn Ottenbreit, Editor

This Week (December 16): Jean Cable will give us an update from ThorLabs world headquarters in Newton.

Next Meeting, January 5th, 2021:  T/B/A

December 16th: Carl opened the meeting with a prayer and we all attempted to sing “God Bless America” on Zoom.  The experiment will not be repeated.
Dan Hayek discussed the history of Hayek’s and its current organization and offerings.  The business is 81 years old and was started by Dan’s grandfather on Spring Street.  Today, 75% of sales are processed in house.   Thanksgiving was busy (they sell approximately 700 turkeys/year) but the Christmas season is bigger because it extends over a longer period of time and encompasses a greater variety of foods (ham, lamb, turkey, etc).  There were several questions during the Q&A regarding the company’s response to COVID, which reduced staffing.  Laura thanked our speaker.

Happy $:

  • Charles is a grandfather!  He gave a happy $5 for Hudson Renee.
  • Bob Shankman is happy for the $32 he left at Hayek’s.
  • Steve Wescott is happy NOT to sing again!
  • Mark Hontz is happy for Nathaniel’s early admission to Boston Univ. Law School with a three year full-tuition scholarship!
  • Laura is happy for Pam.

Announcements:
