August 22, 2018 Rotary Club Meeting Minutes:  Linda McConville
 
Bill Kehoe opened the meeting at 12:20. This was our second meeting at our new location, the Barrel House.
 
Steve Westcott led the group in singing God Bless America.
 
Guests:  We welcomed Lonnie Nechamkin, Wyatt, Lonnie’s grandson, and Suzanne Gilman. 
 
Happy Dollars:   Linda McConville started off the happy dollars with gratitude for be able to attend the 75th Anniversary of the Intrepid where they honored the men and women who have served on the Intrepid who included her brother-in-law. 
 
Jan was very happy after a cruise to Alaska with her children and grandchildren.  Fun was had by all. 
 
Denise was happy to report that John’s Barber Shop is donating 5 free haircuts to local homeless individuals in honor of the Rotary.
Dawn was happy to help at the food booth on Sunday and was equally happy that she didn’t have to stay to clean up! 
 
Carl is happy that Pam is recovering from her second surgery. Carl also made an appeal for additional help at the food booth on Thursday – Sunday.  Last weekend Carl, Buzz, Sally, Bill, Tom and Tom’s grandson all helped at the booth. 
 
Buzz is happy to report that the red maple tree project is moving forward which is to honor our club in the town of Newton. 
 
Announcements:
 
Denise is hosting Dinner on the Farm at her home on September 15th which will be a fund raising event.  Contact Denise for more information. 
 
Remember the 51st Annual Newton Rotary Golf Outing will be held on September 12th.  Charles reported the local radio station donated 30 ads to be run for the event.  Matt reported the number of golfers is running high but there is room for more golfers!  Please plan to participate that day, come to lunch or the dinner. 
 
September 23 is the Professional Boat Racing Event.  Wyatt, Jerry Nechamkin’s grandson, announced it will also be a fundraiser in honor of Jerry.  Lonnie is hosting it for Rotarians at her home. 
 
Program:  Carolyn Ottenbreit introduced our program and guests, Jamie Bennett and Mary Evanandodoso from the Visiting Nurses Association.  They described the critically needed and valuable services of their main two programs:  Caregiver Support Programs and Comprehensive Home Care Services.  The programs provide services to people who are homebound, pre-habilitation and rehabilitative as well as palliative care services.  They have an adult daycare center in Boonton and are assessing the need for one in Sussex County as well.  They are a nonprofit organization and appreciate donations.  For more information about their services, call 1-800-WE VISIT.
 
Laura Hawkins from the Newton Medical Center’s Community Health Department, presented information about the New Vitality Program.  The program offers a variety of health and wellness programs and classes designed specifically for adults 65+ and include topics such as – Medicare Basics, A Path to Better Health, Nutrition/Diabetes Support Group, Alzheimer’s Dementia Support Group, YOGA for Everyone and more. 
 
50/50:  Tom won $8 in the 50/50!  … but not the pot which is $66!
