Newton, New Jersey           August 4, 2021           Carolyn Ottenbreit, Editor

Last week (7/21):  President Laura opened the meeting at 12:20 PM.  Jerry Hanifan lead us in prayer and Steve Wescott selected our song, “God Bless America”.  Our guests were Joyce (guest of George Kaiser), Luis Ponce (guest of Helen Wescott), and Marge McCabe (guest of her husband, Wayne).  Wayne welcomed our guests.  A Paul Harris + 5 pin was awarded to Carolyn.  Tom Digby is reviving the tradition of circulating Polio Plus jars at lunch to collect donations.  Tom explained that the “Plus” refers to other vaccination efforts in addition to Polio, especially measles, which at one time killed more children than Polio.  Jim and Carl gave an update on the Food Booth.  In addition to current projects (mechanical, landscaping and inventory), Carl gave a history of the development of the Food Booth Fundraiser and estimated that we have raised and contributed $500,000 - $1 million to charity during the life of the project.
This week (8/4): In Service.  Review plans for upcoming Fundraisers (Fair Booth and Golf Outing)

Next week (8/7-8/14):  See you at the Fair!

Happy $:
  • Ran out of time – save them for next week.

Announcements:
  • There will be a Celebration of Life in memory of Bob Walker on August 14th.
  • Dawn has resigned as Secretary, and will be replaced by Pam.  Kurt Walton has resigned from the Board.  Todd Lattig will step up as President Elect.  Thank you, Todd!  Alice will replace Kurt on the Board and was sworn in by Steve Wescott.
  • President Laura advised that we should have 4 Board members at large, rather than three, to cover the four Avenues of Service.  The Board plans to appoint an additional Board member.
  • Carolyn passed around the sign-up sheet to take notes for the Newtarian.  Now that we are no longer virtual, it is easier to take turns producing the Newtarian.  Please sign up and, when it is your turn, take notes in Word and forward the file to Matt Hannum, who will produce and distribute the newsletter.
  • The Newton Rotary Golf Outing will take place on Wednesday, September 8th.  This year’s honoree is Alden Welch. Please spread the word!  We need golfers after missing a year.
  • Wayne McCabe and Bob Shankman will co-chair our Centennial Committee.

50/50:  Carolyn won $5 and left $86 in the pot.
