Last week: 5/4/16
Editor: Alice Vigiletti
On Wednesday June 1st, the Newton Rotary Scholarship luncheon meeting will be held at Newton Country Club. Cost for lunch will be $23.00 per person.
This Week: Larry Ripley will speak on “The Art of Public Speaking.”
Last Week: President Elect Charles presided at today’s lunch meeting. Many club members shared their memories of our recently departed member, Sylvester Fletcher (“Fletch”). John Cuozzo, Jan Pasculli, Mark Hontz, Laura Camp, Tom Brodhecker, Dewey Budd, Bud Luthman, Denise Current, John Frank, and Matt Hannum (I’m sure I missed some) remembered Fletch as knowledgeable and dedicated to his profession as well as upbeat and kind. The most common memory was “Come here and sit by me” called out to a new Rotarian who might be uncertain where to sit at lunch. Matt Hannum read a proposed “Rotary Creed”, written by Fletch, that took as its starting point the 4-way Test and expanded upon the purpose of that Test. A Celebration of Life for Fletch will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 14th, at the Panther Valley Ecumenical Church, 1490 County Route 517, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
Charles asked for a few suggestions for new “Fun” raisers. Bob Shankman suggested a sale of original art, with any commissions/donations accruing to the club. Charles suggested a wine tasting, similar to one he attended which was organized by Wallkill Valley Rotary. Denise Current suggested that we sell ticket to a dinner/comedy show, and invite other clubs.
Guests: Timothy Jackson (a past guest speaker on Reverse Mortgages).
