Last Meeting: Date 8/19/2015
We were all led in prayer by Bill Kehoe

The guest speaker was our new District Governor, Frank Geraghty.  D.G. Frank spoke of the grants available from the district and from the Rotary Foundation.

Various clubs receive grants for many worthwhile causes globally.  In Sri Lanka, schools were built with Rotary money.  The Caldwell Club partners with other clubs and St. Barnabas to build and equip a medical facility in the Dominican Republic.

D.G. Frank spoke about several more including his pet project for helping homeless veterans get back on their feet.  The project is called “Hope for Veterans”.  They receive help with mental stress issues and everyday things like a shower, clean clothes, a meal, and housing, where they once were living on the street.

Jerry noted that the Newton Rotary Club has produced 4 District Governors.
1-  Ott Klein            1947 – 1948
2-  Warren Welch    1969 – 1970
3-  Bill Hall              1974 - 1975
4-  George Kaiser    1993 – 1994
George was present and received a nice round of applause.

Announcements:
Charles spoke about the golf outing which is Sept. 9th.  This is our fundraiser dedicated to Newton Medical Center.  We are all blessed to have such a fine medical facility right here.  We should all buy and sell tickets for playing and/or a very fine dinner to benefit the hospital.
A sympathy card was passed around for all of us to give our condolences to Ray Hecht’s family.  His Rotary badge will now be retired.

The Club received a very nice thank you letter from Kylie Blair Quinn.  She is very grateful for our scholarship award and will remember us always.

Carl Lazzaro reported that the food booth did very well.  David Adamsbaum got the Corn Award to a great job of corn grilling.  The Burnt Hand Award went to Tom Digby.  Pam was recognized for all her help pulling it all together.  Also a big thank you to John Roberts and his crew of football linemen helpers.

Volunteers were requested to help run the food booth for the horse show this Thurs. thru Sun. 7 AM to 2 PM.

Fireside Chats will resume soon.  Seasoned Rotarians will tell us about Rotary activities and the personal rewards that come from partaking in our events.

Social Evening will be soon and initially will probably be a cocktail hour.

The Board meeting was held immediately following the lunch meeting.

50/50:
D.G. Frank drew the lucky number – his!  But he did not pick the Ace of Spades.  D.G. Frank generously donated his winnings back to the club.  Thanks Frank!
