Last week: District Governor Ray Freaney visited the Newton Rotary Club to discuss District and International initiatives for 2019-2020. The Rotary International theme for this year is “Rotary Connects the World”, and DG Ray expanded that to “Rotary connects communities”. He discussed Polio vaccination efforts and explained how close we are to achieving global eradication, and how important it is to continue vaccinations. DG Ray also discussed membership. He introduced the idea of satellite clubs, which can have lower membership numbers to start (as low as 7 members), and become fully independent when they grow. He reminded us of the importance of the Club’s public image and encouraged public relations efforts and a focus on increasing membership.
Carl Lazzaro inducted the Newton Rotary Board for 2019-2020. President: Carolyn Ottenbreit, President Elect: Jim Taylor, Past President: Bill Kehoe, Secretary: Pam Lazzaro, Treasurer Helen Wescott, Board Members: Todd Lattig, Chris Wolverton and Kurt Walton. Special thanks to outgoing President Bill for his successful year of service.
Guests and Visiting Rotarians: Thomas and Nathaniel Hontz, Mary, Shane Edwards, and Cathy and Judy (caretakers for Fred Seplow).
