This week:  No lunch meeting this week.  This week's meeting will be held at 5:00 pm at Denise Current’s Barn located at 955 Fairview Lake Road, (Stillwater Township) Newton, NJ 07860. Please call or e-mail Pam if you plan to attend as we need a head count for meal preparation. The cost will be $10 per person.  To contact Pam please call 973-224-6839 or e-mail ptl18@ptd.net .  We will be stuffing duffle bags for the homeless:  12 children and 24 adults will receive bags.

Last Week:   Brian Pasch introduced Newton Rotary to the Scarlet Knights Wrestling Club (SKWC).The SKWC, not an official part of Rutgers University, is a 501(c)3  with a mission of :”Advancing the sport of amateur wrestling in NJ”.  To accomplish its mission, the SKWC runs a regional training center (“RTC”) for qualified athletes (all-Americans, state and international champions), mentors student athletes and runs a local wrestling club for HS and younger wrestlers.  All these activities require extensive fundraising.  Their largest fundraiser of the year is the “Pin Pool”, in which donors promise to pay a named amount for each pin earned by Rutgers wrestlers during the season (see http://www.scarletknightswrestlingclub.com/ to participate).

Announcements:
  • Jim Taylor has the Newton Rotary plaques which will be installed with the posts which we paid to have installed on Main Street to support banners.  He is working with the town to get them installed.
  • Jerry Nechamkin remembered Newton Rotary in his will, including a bequest of $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation to honor his wife, Lonnie, as a Paul Harris Fellow.  There will be an installation at a later date.
Happy Dollars:
  • Mike Hanifan is happy that his son is on the mend, thanks to a recent hospital stay and Jim Porter.
  • John Cuozzo is happy for the kids who were selected for the Sussex County Band and Chorus.
  • Laura Camp is happy to pass the pickle jar for the homeless.
  • Linda McConville enjoyed a visit from her son and a vacation in Maine with friends.
  • Jim Konzel is happy for his wife’s 5k run.
  • Buz Tomasino was happy to participate in a cycling event for the Epilepsy Foundation.
  • Bill Kehoe apologized for suggesting that last week’s speaker deserved our vote (a violation of Rotary protocol).
  • Charles Grotyohann is happy to report that his recent doctor visits have been uneventful.  He also enjoyed hearing Mark Hontz play the bagpipes at ET Holland’s funeral service.
  • Denise Current is happy to have procured a new Rotary sign for her barn.
  • Carolyn Ottenbreit was happy to attend the Terry Fox Run in Central Park last Saturday.  The run, which was started by her husband in the early 90’s, has raised over $3 million for cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering since inception.
50/50:  Richard Radcliffe won $12, but left the pot ($393) to grow.
