Newton, New Jersey                          June 10, 2020                Carolyn Ottenbreit, Editor

This Week:  We resume our weekly 12:30 PM Meetings.  Our own Heidi Webber will present a program on the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War, with emphasis on Kenny Benson from Newton.  Please email Carolyn at carolyn_ottenbreit@ml.com if you do not receive a link to the Zoom event.
Last Wednesday, 6/10, we participated in the Polio Webinar at 12 noon, in lieu of our weekly meeting.  The Rotary Foundation asked that participants donate their lunch money to Polio Plus using the link:  https://www.endpolio.org/

Happy $:  If you cannot attend the Zoom meeting, you can email your virtual Happy Dollars to Pam Lazzaro at ptl18@ptd.net

  • No happy dollars this week.  Only the Polio Plus Program aired.

Announcements:

  • The District matching program for Paul Harris points is now complete.  Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped the District exceed its Foundation Goal of $240,000.
  • The Board met last Wednesday, via Zoom.  Due to the difficulty of finding a date when an indoor event might actually be held, it was decided that this year’s Pancake Breakfast will not take place.  Any placemat fees already received will be applied to the 2021 Pancake Breakfast.
  • The raffle drawing of the Rotary Quilt, to benefit Family Promise, which was to have taken place during the Fair, will be postponed to next year.  We will apply to the State to reschedule the drawing.
  • The dinner at the Wallpack Inn, which had been planned for June 27th to take the place of the Garden Party this year, has been cancelled.
  • We continue to brainstorm ideas for fundraisers.  All suggestions are welcome.
  • We will submit an application for the Homeless Project for a District Matching Grant for 2020-2021.  Since a fundraiser was held in 2019, fundraising is sufficient to carry the project through next year.
  • There will be a virtual RI Convention this year on June 20th-26th.  The general sessions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, with breakout sessions on the weekdays. If you follow the link to “View Full Schedule,” you can see the breakout sessions for each day. While it is free to attend, they are still requiring participants to register. https://www.riconvention.org/en.
