This Week, Wednesday, July 27, 2016
Change of venue – meeting at the Newton Medical Center – Romano Building, 12:15 p.m. Presentation of proceeds from the Golf Outing to the Newton Medical Center Foundation.
Last Week, Wednesday, July 20, 2016
Pres. Charles struck the magic bell to commence the meeting. Barbara Miller led us in a prayer of beauty and inspiration. Mark Hontz led us in “This Land is Your Land.” The dulcet sounds of the music poetic.
Pres. Charles then shared a signature “Sunshine Saying.” Yes, for those who missed Wednesday's Sunshine Sayings selection, Pres. Charles indicated there will be others.
Talk about getting us ready to work (sell) at the Fair. What a timely program. A primer on how to sell. The Club is ready to sell wursts and brats, franks on the grill, kraut and corn by the thousands after listening to Dan Hollis. Dan is the founder of The Magic of Selling. Dan spoke to the Club and shared examples and experiences in areas as product knowledge, handling objections, proper preparation and more. Armed with such knowledge, we should sell, sell, sell every frank in stock (no pun intended) August 5 – August 14.
Guests
Visiting us today was Damien – guest of Alice
Announcements
Carolyn Ottenbreit was honored by being named a Paul Harris Fellow.
Perfect attendance pins were given to: Matt Hannum, Barbara Miller and Jerry Nechamkin – each of whom it was noted missed last week's meeting.
Past Pres. Jerry observed that Carl Lazzaro finally has a “reserved” table.
Bill Kehoe spoke re: the Membership Committee and requested members to share any ideas they have.
Pres. Charles announced that a serious effort will be made to begin meetings 12:15 p.m. and conclude at 1:15 p.m.
Pres. Charles also reminded members that next week's meeting, Wednesday, July 27, will be held at the Newton Medical Center and there is no meeting on August 10 because of the Fair. Charles also noted that much help is needed on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the first week of the Fair. He requested that members volunteer for two shifts at the Fair.
Pres. Charles asked “What is Rotary?” and then provided a thorough definition of what Rotary is and, importantly, what Rotary does. Tom Digby encouraged members to read the recent Rotarian article, “Reasons to love Rotary right now” and Barbara Miller recounted the meaning and value of being a Rotarian.
Carl spoke to the Club from his “private table” about the history of Newton Rotary at the Fair. Carl took us back on a journey in time and finished with the idea that just as there is a place for everyone in Rotary, there is a role for everyone involved in working at the Booth. Proceeds from the Fair benefit the community.
