A day of in-service – catching up on all the news and activities of Newton Rotary. A plethora of events and undertakings. Newton Rotary is one active club!
Last Week, Wednesday, February 22, 2017
Pres. Charles summoned us at 12:15 and led us in the pledge. Alden offered our prayer and Steve struck the initial notes of America the Beautiful with the Newton Rotary chorus following in pitch-less perfect harmony.
Diane Taylor of Pass It Along introduced four area scholar athletes. Pass It Along now sponsors the Scholar Athlete Program. Prior to each student addressing the Club, Diane gave an overview of the many dimensions of Pass It Along. A synoptic view is that Pass It Along is a very successful youth empowerment/youth development program for the youth of Sussex County.
Following Diane's energy-ladened remarks, our four student athletes introduced themselves focusing on their academic, athletic, and community service accomplishments. They are, indeed, a very articulate, impressive quartet who with numerous accolades and accomplishments maintains a beautiful sense of humility and appreciation.

Happy Dollars
- Denise Current – thanking Carolyn Ottenbreit for serving as host for our exchange student.
- Carolyn Ottenbreit – for the pleasure and experience of serving as interim host for Runchida.
- John Frank – for a great visit with Barbara and Ned Miller in Venice, FL. Ditto for Barbara's birthday on February 22. John also noted that none other than Frank Eberhart joined the group in Venice. John offered another happy $ for Elaine Eberhart. There was no way he was giving a happy $ for Frank.
- Jerry Nechamkin – proudly, for the accomplishments of his grandson.
- Alden Welsh – for the newly appointed minister of the United Methodist Church of Newton.
- Jerry Hanifan – for his grandson who is doing graduate work at MIT and who will be speaking at a medical convention regarding his recent research.
- John Sinclair – for our four scholar athletes.
- Bud Luthman – for his son who is a former scholar athlete from High Point and who was just made an equity partner in his law firm. Bud also gave a happy dollar for his remembrance of a football team's visit to him while recuperating in a Japanese hospital and what the visit meant to him.
HELP!
Scribes are needed! Put the pen to the paper. Reporters are needed to take the Newtarian to press. Anyone interested in helping once, twice, upon occasion, whenever is asked to see Pres. Charles. You don't have to be an H. L. Mencken to do this. Nor do you have to have a copy of the “Elements of Style” by your side. Help bring Club news to our members.
50/50
Bud Luthman (yet, again) won the weekly pot of $10 but being the kind, considerate person he is, he left the accumulating pot for someone else.
