Minutes/Notes from our March 14, 2018 meeting.
Opening
President John rang the bell at 12:25 pm. The pledge was followed by a robust version of God Bless America led by the multi-talented Steve Wescott.
Bud Luthman eloquently said grace.
There were no guests present at today’s meeting.
Happy dollars were abundant.
First off was Charles Grotyohann for a successful trip to Arizona with his wife and one of his daughters. No round of golf but a bucket of balls did find themselves scattered on the driving range.
Bob Shankman was happy for the Stillwater Rescue Squad in their quick response. Bob tried to disprove one of Newton’s theories about two solid objects occupying the same space. Tree won! Car is totaled but happily Bob is fine.
Laura Camp was happy to announce that one of her grandsons has just enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Of course Bud Luthman had something to say about Army vs. Marines but we will just let that one slide.
Buz Tomasino was happy for his successful left knee replacement. He also praised Newton Medical Center for their Physical Therapy aftercare.
Announcements
The pancake breakfast was declared a success despite the challenging weather. Totals are not in yet so with anticipation we wait for Carolyn’s final tally.
As a reminder the Volley Ball tournament has been moved to April 13, 2018 at the Community College. Chris Wolverton still needs help.
June 30th has been set for the Garden Party. The club is still in need of a location. Anyone ready to volunteer their home should see Bill Kehoe.
The District Golf Outing is June 12th. Cost per golfer is $125.00.Registration papers should be by June 1.
Speaker
Without further ado, Bill Kehoe introduced our guest speaker, Mary Carroll, the Director of Member Services for the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce.
Mary provided us with some of the history of the SCCC and their formation in 1980 as the county chamber.
She explained that the chamber is there to “support businesses and help them grow”. One of their other focuses is to help raise awareness about tourism her in the county and explained some of their efforts to bring that about.
Mary also explained the chambers structure, various committees, functions for member support and collaboration. She also said some of their activities are open to non-members as well. Memberships starts at $261.00 per year.
For more information and details about the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce Mary strongly suggested that anyone interested should visit their web site at
www.sussexcountychamber.org.
50/50
Ticket #1437 was held by but none other than budding physicist Bob Shankman who won the $7.00 take. He pulled the 10 of Hearts so the $147.00 pot lives for another day.
President John adjourned the meeting at 1:05pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Taylor
