GUEST SPEAKER: WAYNE McCABE Topic: THE COCHRAN HOUSE
Wayne’s presentation was most enlightening.
There were 7 ownerships of The Cochran House over the years.
1808 – 1830s It was a Stage Coach Stop
Eventually it became run down.
Cochran was born in Ireland and came to America in 1818. He, by trade, was a Butcher and worked,
providing meat products to the workers on the Morris Canal. He made money and built the Cochran House,
In 1923 The Newton rotary held it’s meetings there.
Hendershot purchased the Cochran Hose and introduced the Log Cabin Room, complete with a 14 foot wide Fireplace.
The Cochran Hose was demolished in the 60s and became a Department Store.
Parking lot behind the venue had houses which were demolished to make room for parking.
The Cochran Hose sold for $200,000!!!!
