NEWTON ROTARY CLUB

MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 16, 2022

President Todd called the meeting to order with gusto and joy in his voice. The salute to the flag was followed by a moment of prayer given by Gerry Hannifan. The (12) Disciples in attendance then did their best to belt out a rendition of “God Bless America”. Laura took stage to thank all for shared Rotary fellowship.

Happy Dollars were contributed by: Carolyn, for her daughter being in San Francisco; Alice, for an update on the candy fundraiser; Gerry H., for Rotary fellowship with his son, Mike; Buz, in recognition of the Rutgers men’s soccer team who won the Big Ten Soccer Championship; Mike H., for attending the Carlstadt and Morris Plains Rotary meetings; John C., $2- attributing the 12 in attendance as Disciples and for something else. (Carl came in later) and Todd, a $5 bill for the surging Giants football team.

Note : a special mention was made in concern for Jim Taylor who, at the moment was in the hospital. Best wishes for Pam who is under the care of Carl and a visiting nurse.

Odds and Ends

Frank E. informed us that at Rotary meetings in the South, Mr. would precede your name, thus Mr. Frank. To his displeasure, it seemed, this referenced him to John Frank. To the contrary, it would be an honor to be named for John Frank.

Laura pleaded for volunteers to help close up the Food Booth. A few “disciples” stepped up.
The Program

Hats off to Alice for filling in. She was a “One Women Show” today. Not only was she our speaker, first she organized the meeting set up, then took charge of registering members and collecting the 50/50. The program was a summary of information she gathered from attending a District meeting that focused on Rotary Membership. She emphasized the importance of making Rotary visible in the community so as to attract potential members. Worldwide there are 1,209,491 members but that could grow if every member would bring in a new person every two years. There are 535 districts worldwide. What use to be our District 7475 is now called Jersey Nine District 60.

Wrapping Up the Meeting

The 50/50 was won by Laura for a whopping $3. The pot grows to $128 plus. There is no meeting next week, November 23. Enjoy a blessed and family fun THANKSGIVING!
Respectfully submitted,
Buz Tomasino
