Newton, New Jersey November 4, 2020 Carolyn Ottenbreit, Editor
This Week (Nov 4th): It’s bring your Sponsor to Rotary Day! As a member of the Newton Rotary Club (and following Rotary tradition) we each have been invited to membership by another member. It is time to share a big thank you to our sponsors who are still here or who live in our memories. Remind your Sponsor to Zoom in on November 4th; we will want to know who sponsored them too!
November 18th: The Editor of the NJ Herald will join us on Zoom.
October 21st: We held a joint Zoom meeting with the Rotary Club of Columbo Metropolitan, Sri Lanka. The Columbo Club is our partner in the Gift of Life Global Grant. Approximately ½ of the 50 pediatric heart surgeries planned have already been performed. The call was also attended by Jay Liyanage, formerly of the Denville Rotary Club and now retired to Sri Lanka and Rob Raylman, CEO of Gift of Life International. Jim Porter discussed the history of Newton Rotary Club and the Gift of Life and Carl Lazzaro recalled a Gift of Life beneficiary who traveled to the USA in the early days of the program, when all surgeries were performed in the USA, who was well enough to play the piano for our Club after she recovered – and asked that she never be forgotten. Thank you, Carl, for keeping her memory alive.
