Last Week: Newton Rotary meeting was held on June 7, 2017 at noon at the Newton Country Club.
Charles opened the meeting and the Club recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and to our great country. Mark Hontz led the group in song and Barbara Miller led the group in prayer.
Program: George Kaiser, Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee introduced the program. The Committee did a thorough job of interviewing the scholarship candidates and reading their essays. It was not easy to narrow down the group of nominees as the committees shared there were many deserving applicants. They did manage to decide on the winners who are the following stellar students:
Sussex County Technical School:
$500 Recipient - Mary Sutton; $1,000 Recipient – Julia Caron
Kittatinny Regijonal High School:
$500 Recipient – Steffi Kokkelink
$1,000 Recipient – Nathaniel Hontz
Newton High School:
$500 Recipient – Elizabeth DeHaas
The students exceptional summaries of their accomplishments, their goals and how they perceive themselves in the world. Quotes included Mother Teresa “Good works form a chain of love” as well as Ghandi “the best way to find yourself is in the service of others.”
George thanked the Scholarship Committee for doing such a wonderful job.
