Newton Rotary meeting on 2.15.17, noon at Spring Street Grill
Speaker - Jocelyn Gilman with American Red Cross
Last week Pres. Charles opened meeting with pledge, Alden invocation and special thanks that Rotary is not politically or religiously motivated. We all sang My Country Tis of Thee.
No guests recorded but we definitely welcomed back members Fred Seplow and ET Holland. Jim our greeter also welcomed our guest speaker Laurie Brown with the Gift of Life Foundation.
Laurie went right into her presentation for the Gift of Life, an organization that raises funds so talented doctors and nurses can go abroad or do surgeries in US on Children needing lifesaving open heart surgery that can't afford it. They work mainly with Westchester Medical Hospital and Montefiore in the Bronx, NY and was started in Long Island, NY. Our club can proudly claim it donated $50,000 over the years. Charles suggested it is time we help another Child as we have enough in the account to do so. Carl Lazzaro noted it was local Rotary Clubs that started the Gift of Life originally. There are currently 70 Gift of Life groups around the world. The need is great as there are over 5 million children that can't afford the needed surgery. Laurie showed a film of the doctors and nurses in action - The word Harambee means to pull together.
