Last Week, Wednesday, April 5, 2017
Pres. Charles struck the bell to commence the meeting and led us in the pledge.  Bud Luthman offered a thoughtful prayer of appreciation.  Mark Hontz led the chorus in a strained strain of “This Land is Your Land.”

Pres. Charles launched the in-service by breaking the membership into their respective committees.  After each Avenue of Service met, reports were shared with the membership.  It is evident that Newton Rotary is a very active Club in each Avenue.

Guests
Richard Radcliffe  joined us on this day.

 Announcements
Pres. Charles reported that the volleyball tourney was an “over the net” success.  It was a night of symphonic spiking and dauntless digging.  It was fun for all who played despite a run on Australian Dream throughout the county the next day.  Congratulations Chris and all who played and volunteered making the event a success for the Gift of Life.

And, kudos to Stocker Bus Company – the Gift of Life Volleyball Champs for 2017!  In a philanthropic gesture, Denise donated the $250 prize money to the Gift of Life.

Bob Shankman, Club Historian, reported that on June 4, 1986, the Club voted not to bring alcohol into the meeting room by a 49-3 vote.

Birthdays (Pres. Charles) and anniversaries (Bud Luthman – 44 years) were recognized.

Bill Kehoe reported that this year's Pancake Breakfast garnered $3,325.11 for the Club.  Proceeds are donated back to the community.  Bill thanked everyone associated with the Pancake Breakfast for their help.

Beem shared with the Club her experiences at a Dude Ranch.  She had a great  weekend with Denise.  Her horseback riding experience will be forever remembered.

Happy Dollars
Those sharing happiness were:
  • Frank Eberhart for the North Carolina Tarheels National Championship (even though he rooted for Gonzaga) and for his return to Newton Rotary.
  • John Frank for the return of Frank Eberhart to Newton Rotary after Frank's long winter nap.
  • Jim Konzel for his son's 7th birthday.
  • Denise Current for the logistics which produced a Stocker Bus team that won the Gift of Life volleyball tournament.  Some masterful recruiting!
  • Carolyn Ottenbreit for her daughter Katherine who will be matriculating at  the University of Chicago.
  • Mark Hontz for his son Thomas who was accepted into the New Jersey Governor's School of the Sciences at Drew University.

Lost – Not Found
When Pres. Charles sounded the bell to start the meeting, alas, the sound resonating from the striking emitted a reverberation of unfamiliar notes.  The sound heard was that of a dinner knife striking the Rotary bell.  Pres. Charles' gavel has gone missing!  Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the storied gavel, please contact our President.  He misses his gavel.

Missing (also)
The Rotary Wheel is missing!  Whoever was the last recipient of the beloved wheel, please remove it from your mantle and bring it to Pres. Charles for bestowal upon Jon Connolly, the last Rotarian to present at a meeting.

And, yet, another artifact of Newton Rotary has gone astray.  Our 4-way test banner cannot be found.  If anyone knows its possible whereabouts, please let Pam or Pres. Charles know.

 50/50
John Frank hyperventilated when he was announced the winner of the 50/50 – $9.  The $130 pot at the end of the rainbow was left for a future leprechaun.
