President Alice, using her new powers, wacked the bell with authority exactly at 12:15.  Prayer was raised to the heavens by Todd Lattig.  And finally, Steve as usual, led us in song.

Guests

The M and M, Michael and Matthew, were introduced by their proud grandfather, Gerry Hanifan.  (M and M have better attendance records than most members.)  Not to be out done by his father, Michael Hanifan introduced Tara Rodriguez.  Tara is a realtor and with a little more encouragement, she may apply for membership.  Luis Ponce extended a welcome to our guests.

Happy Dollars

One member was $10 dollars' worth of happiness.  The rest were just the normal $1 dollar happy.  John Cuzzo was really happy for the impact the Interlochen Center for the Arts has had on young people. (Where wonder ignites creativity, Where curiosity becomes confidence and Where practice brings mastery.)  Wayne McCabe was happy for something.  My notes say "familiar".  Todd Lattig was happy to visit his parents and daughter in FL.  Laura Camp was happy, happy and some more happy.  She was happy to be with her grandson on the trip to NC where she met her new great grandson and attended her grandson's wedding.  Laura is always happy to be with family.  Jim Taylor said that the memorial service for Scottie Hontz was touching and very appropriate.  Mark Hontz thanked everybody who helped make the day special for the family.  Alden was happy to receive a card from the Club.  Because of that Get Well card, he did. Luis Ponce also expressed his appreciated for the get-well thoughts from the Club.  Mike Hanifan, with some emotion, watched his daughter leave the nest for the Merchant Marine Academy.  He is concerned his daughter might get more discipline there than at home.  Nine happy Rotarians were enough for this scribe.

Announcements

Steve Wescott encouraged everyone to do their share at the Fair.  President Alice has gotten new button-down Newton Rotary shirts.  The shirts can be purchased from Alice.  Alice also distributed calendar of events for Newton Rotary '23--'24 year.  Our Club will be helping out at Manna House on August 16.  We need eight members to volunteer.  The polio jars were fined for being late to the meeting. Despite that, members continue to support this program.  Nancy Morrisey, with glee, has appointed herself as Sgt at Arms.  She passed out the list of fineable actions.  Carl passed out when he saw being late carried a fine.  Denise Current encouraged everyone to participate in the Homeless Project.  Next week we should bring shampoo and conditioner.  Next week will be an in-service meeting.  Barbara Miller is working on a $1,000 grant which would be used for this project.

Program

We have found a way to make Jon Connolly have 100% attendance, make him the permanent speaker.  Jon recently received a leadership award, thus the topic Leadership.  He said there are two types of leadership, good and toxic.  Good leadership is servant leadership, done with humility, absences of ego and is committed to the mission of the organization.  Toxic leadership is ego centric.  This is bully leadership.  In order for a community to survive there must be good young leaders in the pipeline.  Jon plans to start a program where good young leaders can be mentored.

Jim Taylor has won the 50/50 two weeks in a row.  Fortunately, he walked away with only $4 so the pot continues to grow.
