In Service and Bud Luthman
Reminder to bring food for “Helping the Homeless.”
Last Week, Wednesday, September 27, 2017
Pres. Elect Bill enthusiastically called the meeting to order without the tintinnabulation of the gavel on the bell. Carl Lazzaro offered the prayer for this day's meeting. Fred Waring's doppelganger, Steve Wescott, led us in song. Ok, “Fred Waring” is definitely an age-specific analogy geared to the 70+ crowd.
Member Richard Radcliffe, of the Senior Benefit Connection, presented a program on Medicare. An overview of the program explaining the many different plans which comprise Medicare was shared. Richard gave a primer on a complicated program in terms that could be easily understood – even by this senior in the audience.
Guests
No guests today, but Jim Taylor warmly welcomed members present and assumed the role of Club Meteorologist giving a weather report worthy of TWC. Our own Jim Cantore.
Announcements
The food drive for the homeless of Sussex County continues. Please bring tuna, chicken, spam, beef jerky next week. Items purchased in pouches are preferable but cans are also accepted. Helping the homeless is a “hands on project.” Please bring food to help the homeless in our county.
The Oktoberfest was awesome! Thank you Denise.
Happy Dollars
Today's happy dollars even surpassed the number of happy dollars recorded by scribe Bud Luthman when he was Newtarian editor!
Barbara Miller for a recent cruise on the American Queen – New Orleans to Memphis.
Alice Vigiletti for the donation of an electric ice cream scooper from Barbara Miller which has already sold on E-bay.
Buzz Tomasino for Rutgers football and for the Eagles defeat of the New York Giants. No clapping for this “happy” dollar.
Mike Hanifan for the Masquerade Ball invitation from the Arts & Heritage Council distributed to each member. Mike's mother, Maureen, instructed him to make certain each member received an invite.
Mike gave a second happy dollar for his third place finish in a race last week. Mike finished third in the 40 – 49 “youth” group.
Denise Current for the Oktoberfest and the Farm to Table dinner. Denise mentioned that left over food from the Oktoberfest was sent to Manna House. Denise is thankful that we are able to help Manna House and the homeless of Sussex County.
Jim Konzel for the development and successes of his children in playing soccer.
Carl Lazzaro that no one took a knee during our singing of America the Beautiful.
Tom Brodhecker for being in the same club as Denise. Ditto – everyone.
Carolyn Ottenbreit for her daughter who started the University of Chicago and for her early success in calculus.
Laura Camp for her daughters who played field hockey at High Point and for watching her granddaughter play for Kittatinny vs. High Point.
Barbara Miller for attending the same field hockey game as Laura but not knowing Laura was there. Barbara's granddaughter also plays for Kittatinny.
Steve Wescott for bringing Helen home from vacation sans a hospital stay this time. Steve and Helen hiked 13 hours almost vertical up rocks. Steve and Helen usually vacation by themselves!
Helen Wescott for no emergencies nor heart issues, 8,000 feet up and she's afraid of heights.
Buzz (again) for the success of the MS bike ride.
50/50
Tom Brodhecker was the lucky winner of the 50/50 (for the umpteenth time!), but luck ran out in the search for the elusive Ace of Spades.
