Newton Rotary will meet this first Wednesday of the month, for its monthly
In-Service/Membership meeting at the Spring Street Grill at Noon.
Last week, 1/25/17, we met at The Grill. After pledge led by Charles, Alden a prayer and "America" My Country tis of Thee, we got right to business with welcoming of guests…Denise brought Beam, our Thailand exchange student Gale Phoebus brought Kim Seelagy, her chief of staff and David Dumbroff - attorney guest of Steve McNally.
Steve Wescott stood up to recognize someone special-2 people who are Paul Harris fellows. Barbara Miller and Larry Condit. They have made the distinction of donating
$1000/year for 10 years = $10,000 to become Major donors. They each received Crystal Diamond Pins. An impressive amount goes to help classrooms, helps sick with immunizations, new hope and peace. The two dove crystal symbolizes peace in the world.
Our guest speaker - Sandy Mitchell of Project Help
She is the founder and executive director. She got into it because she was married to a Vietnam Vet who was plagued with troubles upon returning from war, drugs, alcohol. She says the
TAP Program is not enough. PTSD is a debilitating condition to have. Her husband ultimately killed himself. Suicide is the #1 killer of returning Vets. Alternative therapy - equine groups, yoga, and support groups to combat drugs and addiction. Homelessness is another big problem her organization tries to help.
