The picture perfect babies on view were, Marge M., Wayne M. Alice V., Jim T., Kathie S., Bob S., Steve W., Jerry H., Denise C., Helen W.
TO MAKE MORE HISTORY, Steve W. approached the podium to present an honor never before presented in the 100 year history of the Newton rotary Club.
In 1980, Bob Fisher sponsored Carl Lazarro to membership. Carl became a very active member and served as President in 1991-92. He also serves as Newton Rotary Endowment President; is a Paul Harris Fellow times 5; and was the encouragement behind building the SC Fair Food Booth (which provides the bulk of the money donated by the Club yearly). This year Carl approached Steve W. and Jim T. to take over the running of the Food Booth. (Steve remarked "It's taking two to replace one!!!"}
Carl's wife, Pam L., a member since 1988 and who served as secretary to the Club for many years, is ill and bedridden and requires constant care. The Club is awarding Pam with Honorary Member status.
A standing ovation prompted Carl to approach the podium. With a surprised look and a cough to clear his throat, Carl remarked he was at a loss for words...not at all like the Carl we all know!! He reminded us of the tent at the Fair, the ups and downs of construction, and how it still takes every member to keep it working, and how he has enjoyed every minute in Rotary.
Marge M. won the 50/50 but not the Pot.
President Alice V. rang the bell to end the meeting at 1:25.
