Last Week: Alexis Holderlyn, President of Kittatinny Interact updated Newton Rotary on the activities of their club this year. Kitatinny has been very active, with 200 members and several community service activities, including: working at Manna House, installing a beautification project at McKeown School, providing Thanksgiving Day meals for families in the school district, and sewing pillow cases for child cancer patients. They also launched an EarlyAct program with McKeown elementary school and have engaged in 7 community service activities with the younger children. A very successful year! Our program speaker was Donald Schuld, who spoke on the topic of WWII POW camps in the United States. As a rule, POWs were treated quite well in the United States and were allowed, in fact, encouraged, to work for pay in local businesses. The canning industry was especially dependent on the labor of POWs. The US government hoped that by treating our own POWs well, our enemies would be more likely to treat American POWs better.
Guests: Alixis Holderlyn and Michele Kaminskyj from the Kittatinny Interact Club.
