The Newton Rotary Club meeting of August 23 started 2 minutes late because we had difficulty orienting Carl so he faced the flag.  Alden uttered a fine Methodist prayer and Steve led us in singing "God Bless America".  President Alice led us in reciting the Four Way Pledge.  She then led us in singing a Rotary song with lyrics she wrote.  We all agreed she ranked at the top of the list of wordsmiths.

Mike Hanifan had no guests to welcome because his sons were off someplace else.  However, he did a wonderful job in lauding the 15 members present.

Jim Taylor was happy because the Fair booth ran like a well-oiled machine.  Steve Wescott was happy that Jim was the oiler.  Todd Lattig has lost 40 pounds.  He also thanked the Club for the card received as he recovered from Covid. Denise Current was happy that the Club got to assist Manna House.  Marge McCabe was happy to have her grandson visit.  Mike Hanifan was happy for the shift he served at the Fair because he got to wrap sandwiches four hours straight without a break.  Finally, Helen Westcott was happy the way Club members responded to the "Chief Pestorer".  (Have fun figuring out that word spell-check)

Dawn Hendershot and Frank whose last name escapes me, from Sussex County Family Promise caught us up to date on that organization whose mission is "To secure housing stability and sustainability for those in crisis because everyone deserves a home".  An interesting statistic, 75% of individuals who are eligible for assistance are not aware that assistance is available.

I must admit I am amazed at President Alice's creativity.  She had us participate in a Circle Story Game.  Each member present had to write a short story on a Rotary experience.

A couple of announcements:  Golf Outing is only a few weeks away, next week combs, brushes and glass plates are items to bring for Homeless Project, Farm to Table will be held on September 30, the 100-year anniversary celebration will be held on Thursday May 16, 2024 and the food booth will be open on September 17 from noon to 5 p.m.  for Sussex County Day.

Jim Taylor won $2 in the 50/50 and immediately bought a candy bar.
