The bell was rung, the pledge recited, the prayer prayed and the song sung. All of this occurred before 12:17 p.m.
Alden led us in a remembrance of Dewey Budd. Dewey was a Newton Rotarian for 64 years.
No guests were present but Todd processed to welcome the guest in absentia.
The meeting last week had to be cancelled because of mechanical problems in the kitchen. However, four members are so stuck in their routine, they showed up anyhow. Because there were two ministers at this mini-meeting, a dispute developed over who should say the prayer. Buzz led the pledge and Laura the singing.
Happy dollars: Todd is a very proud parent as his daughter was one of the few applicants chosen for an internship program at Disneyland. Jim Konzel’s daughter continues to excel in ninja events.
Now the notes get a little sketchy (at least I remembered to bring them home). My recollection is that Todd celebrated a birthday and Buzz an anniversary In February.
President Carolyn made a few announcements. Newton Rotary has again received a $1,000 grant from the District in support of our homeless program. The volleyball tournament, in support of The Gift of Life, will be held on Friday, April 17. The pancake breakfast will be on May 2.
Jim Konzel gave a program on Elder Financial Exploitation. Jim has been presenting this program to various groups in hope of raising public awareness about the problem. Only 1 in about 44 cases is reported and of the cases reported, 90% of elder exploitation is committed by a family member. At the end of the presentation Jim was given the Rotary Wheel. He will now have to safe guard this prestigious award until another Rotary member gives a program.
Someone by the name of Mike took home $5 but the pot grows.
If you like these notes, thank you. If you do not, blame Dawn.
