NEWTON ROTARY CLUB
MINUTES OF JANUARY 25, 2023
Past President Denise Current called the meeting to order at 12:17 pm.   The salute to the flag was followed by a moment of prayer given by Alden Welch.  Our voices were raised under the guidance of John Cuozzo when we sang the first stanza of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

By this point in the meeting, President Todd arrived and took over running the meeting.  He also noted to our assembly that today was a scheduled “In-Service” day.

It was noted that we had 17 of our club members present, along with two guests.  Sean Breslin, an attorney, was a guest of Michael Hanifan, and Andrew ‘Drew’ Lazzaro was the guest of his father, Carl.  Laura Camp extended a great welcoming message to our two visitors and our 17 members.

Happy Dollars were contributed by:

John Frank – handed in five dollars and said that he was extremely happy to be back. He also noted that he is on the mend, which is the most important part.

Laura Camp gave $1.00 because there are only four more tickets left to be sold for the Super Bowl package raffle.

President Todd turned over a buck because he had heard that Buzz was reported to have given $1.00, last week, in support of the Giants.

John Hannum gave $5 because the Eagles won their last game.

Buzz Tomasino gave a dollar because the Eagles won their game, and they are “three and out”.

Birthdays and Anniversaries

Carl & Pam Lazzaro celebrated their 40th anniversary back on January 2.  In honor of this monumental occasion, we sang the Happy Anniversary song to them.

Announcements From the Front of the Hall
President Todd reported on the results of the board of directors meeting is past Monday.  One of the most important things that he announced was a decision to postpone the main celebration of our 100th anniversary until May 2024.

An upcoming Ladies Tea event was discussed and may be scheduled for February 17 in Lafayette and will be coordinated by Alice Vigiletti.  The ladies in our club should listen this upcoming Wednesday for more information about this event.

A get-well card was being circulated around the meeting to be sent to Tom Digby.
The Annual Chili Open will be held on February 24, beginning at 8:30 am, with a 10 am shotgun start.

A reminder from Todd that each week we have the blue mason jars on the tables.  It was asked that we kick in a few bucks or whatever loose change we have in our pockets, as all of the money goes for the on-going fight against Polio.

President Todd expounded on his idea that we may want to consider another “outside” meeting for our members – possibly a trip to “Angry Eric’s” for an evening of restful exchange of stories and ideas for future projects with the club.

Alice and Marge noted that we have four new locations for selling the chocolate candy bars.  Marge noted that it may be a good idea to have each selling station open at that business for only one or two months – which may take care of the perception that we are looking to have them there permanently.  It may also make it easier for us to go back to that venue once or twice a year by rotating these locations.

Finally, it was announced that on September 23, at Denise Current’s farm, there will be a farm to table fundraiser.

Wrapping Up the Meeting

The 50/50 was won by Luis Ponce for a whopping $5.  He drew the 8 of clubs, which did nothing for him in terms of winning the ever-growing pot.  That majestic pot has expanded to a total of $20.

President Todd closed down the meeting at 1:21 pm, with the admonition of traveling home safely given the weather.

Respectfully submitted,
Wayne T. McCabe
