Rotary Club Meeting Minutes: Linda McConville
President, Carolyn Ottenbreit opened the meeting at 12:15 PM.
Tom Brodhecker led us in prayer, which was followed by our weekly patriotic song, led by Steve Westcott.
Guests: While we did not officially have any guests, Matt Hannum did welcome a number of new “old” faces … beloved fellow Rotarians.
Happy Dollars:
Bob Shankman gave a boatload of Happy Dollars as he was very happy to be back. Bob gave a wonderful solo of the hit song, The Show Must Go On.
Jim Taylor gave a sad for his cherished Clemson football team as they sadly lost to LSU.
Tom Brodhecker was happy to see the 3 old timers attend the meeting.
Bill Kehoe … was happy … but my notes just aren’t clear … he was lamenting about the Yankees and that they should have won the World Series. Perhaps I should pay a fine?
Matt was happy that his daughter was up for trying a new sport but unfortunately broke her finger half way through her first basketball game.
John Cuozzo was happy that his nephew Kevin achieved the distinction of being an Eagle Scout.
President’s Announcements:
Carolyn’s announcements started with a picture fine for Pam and Carl Lazzaro whose picture appeared in the NJ Herald following the swearing in of Carl as a committee member of the Fredon Township Committee.
Sadly, Carolyn reminded everyone of the upcoming funeral plans for Denise’s husband, David Current.
Rotary is once again seeking applications for the Youth Exchange Program for students aged 16-19 years of age. Students have the opportunity to spend 3 weeks in Japan.
Rotary annual district meeting is planned to May 7 – 10 and will be held in Baltimore Maryland.
Program: Tony Torre gave an informative presentation about the 200 Club of Sussex County, which is a charitable non-profit organization. The mission of the Club is to provide immediate financial assistance to the families of first responders who lose their lives in the line of duty. Covered first responders must be members of the local police or fire departments, EMS agencies, the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office of the NJ State Police who live in or serve Sussex County. Families are provided $10,000 as a gift within 48 hours of the death of their loved one. The organization also provides student scholarships totally $30,000 annually. This is possible from funds the organization raises as well as investment companies, Hudson Farm, and local businesses. The scholarships are for local students who are the offspring of first responders and must be pursuing a career related to medical, health care and the law.
Laura Camp distributed a petition to be submitted to the Lafayette Economic Development Committee to work to get the local Lafayette Post Office reopened.
Carolyn closed the meeting at 1:15 PM.
