The Newton Rotary Club held its weekly meeting on Wednesday, February 1, one day shy of Ground Hog Day.
President Todd started the meeting around 12 noon. Seventeen members and three guests attended. (Gerry and son Mike H., Alice, Past Pres Laura, Wayne and Marg, Denise, John Cuzzo, John Frank, Kathy, Jim, Steve and Helen, Aldon, Orlando, Buz, and Carl.) Our three guests were Dave Dumbroff, Tara Rodrigez and Bryan Caballero. Buz gave the blessing and Jim Taylor welcomed everyone.
Eight members in particular, were happy about something they experienced. John Cuzzo had a successful visit to the hospital to examine his defibrillator; Mike H. for coaching the Pope John mock trial team on which his daughter was a member; Alden
enjoyed reading Wayne’s Milk Train article and gave a plug for a favorite book of his, The Great Beer Run; Wayne was crying over spilt milk because the Herald cut out half of the train in his article; Buz clarified that he was the EAGLES fan and Steve Wescott was the GIANTS fan; John Frank shared a phone call he had with Frank Eberhart who indicated that he was not coming back to SC anytime soon; Todd was happy because he will root for the NFC in the Super Bowl.
We were all reminded of the Pancake Breakfast to take place on March 18 from 8 to 10 a.m. at Applebee’s. 21 volunteers are needed to greet, seat people, serve and bus tables.
Marg promoted the chocolate bar fund raiser and Laura sold a Super Bowl raffle ticket, one of only 3 left, to Buz. Alice reported that we earned $250 from the Rotary E-bay project. Jim Taylor won the 50-50 ($5) but left the pot.
Although it wasn’t advertised as a program, our guest Bryan Caballero offered an impromptu description of his business, CKO Kickboxing. It is located at 55 Mill St.in Newton. He explained how kickboxing can improve your health and fitness. It is considered the number one fat burning and cardio exercise.
Wayne McCabe will present our program on February 8. He will inform us of more SC historical facts. Not to be outdone by her husband, Marg will speak to us on February 15 about Identity Theft. You don’t want to miss that presentation.
