To prove how detailed oriented President Alice is, the bell did not ring one second before or after 12:15. Carl Lazzaro led us in prayer and Steve Wescott tried to start us off on the correct key as we sang "God Bless America". President Alice then led us in repeating the "Four Way Test".
There were 2 visitors and 18 Rotarians at the meeting. Carl's guest was John Flora. He is in the beverage distribution business. Don't ask me how this happened but Samantha was not only a visitor for the third time, she was also the Greeter. As the Greeter she not only welcomed John but herself.
Happy dollars fell from heaven like snowflakes, (Getting you prepared). And again, I ask the question why is everyone happy when I am the reporter. Carolyn is happy because daughter Maggie has accepted a position with Skanska. Mike Hanifan is pleased because son, Michael, has accepted a position with Murphy & Company. Mike was also happy for the success of the Food Booth on Sussex County Day. Jim Taylor added an additional dollar for the same reason. Orlando was happy his daughter, a nursing student, got 90% on her first biology exam. Samantha is happy to be starting a new job on Monday. Unfortunately, the job is in Parsippany so she will now be attending the evening meetings. John is happy because a relative is receiving financial support for Med school. We should thank Barbara Miller for all the work she put into applying for a $5,000 grant from the district for the homeless project. She gave a happy dollar because the grant was approved. Marge was happy she attended a conference sponsored by UMC. She also celebrated grandson's ninth birthday. Grandson blew out 8 candles but let his grandmother blow out the last one. Because there was no picture with Wayne's article on different architectural design in the County, a picture fine was not levied
Today was an in-service meeting. We sang Happy Birthday to Nancy and Mike and Happy Anniversary to Carolyn. Steve Wescott discussed the Rotary Foundation. He equated giving to service. Most of our contributions go to "no see-ems". We serve people we do not know with our donations. At our meeting on October 4, any gifts given to the Foundation will be matched by the District. If you know any store that will sell candy bars, please let Marge know. If you would like a Rotary key chain made by Laura's daughter, please see Marge. Farm to Table event where ticket sales will go to the homeless project, is at Denise's house on September 30. Distribution of dictionaries has started. If you would like to help in the distribution, please speak with Denise. President Alice had some true or false questions about Newton Rotary. This will be the last time she does this. Every question precipitated an argument. Three people are needed to assist Manna House on October 10.
Bud won $5 but let the big pot keep growing.
