NEWTON ROTARY CLUB
MINUTES OF APRIL 20, 2022

IN THE BEGINNING….
Our regular Wednesday meeting was opened at 12:14 by Vice President Todd Lattig.  Prayer was led by Wayne McCabe, with a song led by Steve Wescott.  Today we had 15 of our members present, with no visitors or guests.  Greetings were extended to our members by John Frank. John wished all of our members, Saibhreas Sláinte Mhór, a grand Irish toast if ever there was one.  Remember Anocht, ólaimid ar son na hÉireann.

HAPPY DOLLARS
Todd Lattig put in a dollar at the request of Laura.  Laura was extremely happy because the wedding is coming up this weekend.
Frank Eberhart kicked in a buck for Bud Luthman being honored this weekend.
John Frank ponied up a dollar as well for the PR photo of 4 of our female members of the club that appeared in the newspaper promoting one of our successful programs in community service.
Todd Lattig donated $4 – one dollar for each of the ladies that appeared in the press photograph.
John Frank came up with another two dollars for Frank Eberhart’s trip to North Carolina.
Jim Taylor wrapped up the donations for today with a dollar for Eberhart being back from that southern state.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Vice President Todd began the litany of announcements:
THE SRI LANKA ROTARY CLUB - seems to be extremely happy to have a working relationship with our club.  It seems we share many common values in our service to our communities.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - Todd noted that the scholarship program is in the works and is in the very capable hands of Barbara Miller.
KITTATINNY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL – has one student in the Interact Club who is scheduled to be going to the RYLA Annual Meeting and training program in June.  Charles is in charge of this group.

DENVILLE ROTARY – Todd noted that we had received a letter from the Denville Rotary Club, thanking us for the gift that we sent to help them mark their 75th anniversary celebration.  The donation we made was sent to the Rotary Foundation on their behalf.

GARDEN PARTY – Todd also mentioned that the garden party this year will be held on Saturday, June 25, at the Denise Current farm in Stillwater. We had wanted to hold the event at the Newton property of the County Historical Society, but the building will not be ready by that point. Todd asked us to save that date on our calendars.
The theme for the party this year will be WORLD PEACE.  Everyone will be encouraged to bring food that represents their own particular ethnic background.

Speaker for April 13th – Todd Lattig – our very own Vice President

Today our speaker, Todd Lattig, our Vice President, introduced himself since he was running the club meeting today in Laura’s absence.
Todd said that he is not only the minister at the Newton United Methodist Church, but he is also a professional podcaster.  His second vocation is the one that was the topic of his discussion during lunch.
Todd explained that “podcasting” is much like talk radio shows, except that individuals produce, edit and then download the recording they make of their talking (with or without other people present and speaking).   Essentially, this is hosting your very own talk radio show, according to Todd.
He said that he enjoys editing the music and has enjoyed it since he was a kid.  Todd also presents his sermons on his podcast.  That part of his program, he said, is known as the “Life of Giving Waters”.
Todd is frequently joined in his podcast by another person from Rock Island, Illinois, who can simply tie into the production.  Pod Beam is the hosting platform for Todd’s podcast.
To find his or another person’s podcast, on your iPhone look for the “Podcast” app.   There is also Spotify.  I had to ask what Spotify is and Todd said that it is an app for music.  Presently, Todd said that he has roughly 40 people who follow his podcasts.  He also apparently is online under the “Patrion” program, which is a crowd sourcing program.  There, he has a few fewer followers.  In any respect, Todd seems to enjoy being online doing a podcast – I guess much like the “Nightbird” – Alison Steele, used to talk to her listeners on WNEW – FM, until her untimely passing on September 27, 1995.

FINAL NOTE     50/50
Frank Eberhart nailed the weekly fund for a whopping total of $5.  But when he went and picked a card from the diminishing deck of cards (the 4 of diamonds) – he once again left the ever-growing pot of $271.50 on the table.

NEXT WEEK’S SPEAKER
The speaker for next week’s program will be our own Bob Shankman.  His topic will be “Women in Rotary, and the significant roles they play”.

ADJOURNMENT
With no other business to come before the club, the meeting was formally adjourned by Vice President Todd 1:17 pm.

Respectfully submitted
Wayne T. McCabe
Past President
