This Week, Wednesday, April 20, 2016
Dr. Karien Ziegler will speak to the Club about Rotary's signature program, Polio Plus.  What a great humanitarian accomplishment this program has been!

In Two Weeks, Wednesday, April 27, 2016
Jason Schnaffer of Exervolve Fitness, “Insights to Health, Weight Control & Well Being.”  Note:  This program is mandatory for all members of Newton Rotary's 2017 Dart Throwing and Volleyball Teams.  Certainly, a topic of “Weighted” interest.

Last Week, April 13, 2016
Pres. Jerry, via a gently tapped bell, called the meeting to order at 12:15 and led us in the pledge.  Mark Hontz offered the invocation.  In dulcet tones the gathering harmonized “God Bless America.”  Next stop:  Carnegie Hall!

Guests
Strictly a homogeneous gathering of Rotarians on this day.  Steve Wescott, in his role as Greeter, performed admirably welcoming all “non guests.”

Photo Fines
Dottie & Dewey Budd were captured by the Newton paparazzi celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.  After he paid Dottie's picture fine, Dewey informed the Club that in response to Heidi Mountford's presentation, Bristol Glen donated three refrigerators to Katie's House.

Happy Dollars
Those happy were:
  • Our speaker for the New York Rangers as possible Stanley Cup winners.
  • Mark Hontz for his son, Nathaniel, who was selected to attend the prestigious Governor's School for Engineering & Technology.
  • John Iliff for his granddaughter's quest for a berth on the Olympic wrestling team.
  • Bob Morgenstern for his Wildcats who reign as NCAA champs!

 Trivia Game
Pres. Jerry launched a TV/Movie Trivia Game.  The Club did not fare well.  Matt asked if next week's questions might reflect shows/movies shot in color!  Most likely a generational thing.  Yes, it's true, there was a time in our history when film was shot only in black and white – believe it or not!

Group Study Exchange
Denise Current has expeditiously organized our Club's role in the G.S.E.  Denise said “yes” when asked to perform this role.  She recounted for us Past President Mike Gaus's theme when he was President – “Just Say Yes.”

Denise asked for members to “say yes” when asked to help or , please, just volunteer.  Members have volunteered but help is still needed.  If you can assist Denise in any way, e.g., housing, driving, etc. please contact her.  Denise has planned a week of activities, beginning Sunday, April 17, for the GSE team from Brazil.  Any help is appreciated!  A special thanks to Denise for undertaking this Herculean endeavor!

Last Week's Program
Tommy Hilcken spoke to us on “Learning Through Motivation & Laughter.”  A lesson well taught!  Tommy injected wit and humor into a serious topic noting the importance of the influence of people we respect in the journey of our lives.  Just as we have role models in our lives so too we can serve as role models in the lives of others.  “It is through helping others that we ourselves are helped.”  Even when one slips from the “straight and narrow,” the help of others in times of need, can get us back on the “road taken.”  The hope is that we all have a nice wonderful life's journey and if we do, please try to make it nice and wonderful for someone else too.

50/50
John Frank was this week's winner at $12.  John's off to Disneyland.  The “mini” Mega Million Pot continues to grow at $352 – John's staying home!
