Rotary Notes:
This week 11/17: John Frank will talk about Rotary traditions.
Last Week 11/10: We enjoyed a joint Zoom meeting with our Sister Club, the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan, which we now know as the “Metros”. President Laura opened the meeting and Todd said an interfaith prayer. President Gerry introduced his Board and the major initiatives of the Metros this year, which are primarily focused on the environment (especially water) and underprivileged children. President Laura introduced the Newton Rotarians in attendance and discussed some of the Newton Club’s projects and fundraisers. Dinali gave Newton Rotarians an overview of the local operations of the recently concluded Global Grant and introduced the Metro’s next project in that arena. The Metros have received a $105,000 grant from the Linde Foundation and are raising additional funds to complete more heart surgeries. Tragically, of the 2,000-2,500 children on the waitlist for surgery before COVID none remain, most having died while on the waitlist. We are overjoyed that the Metros were able to save 50 children by providing pediatric heart surgery through the Global Grant. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Next week 11/25: No meeting – Happy Thanksgiving!
