President Charles Grotyohann opened the noon meeting with pledge, heartfelt prayer and the singing of God Bless America. We welcomed our guests, Beam, our exchange student from Taiwan and Brian Gill, executive director of the Queens Opera Theatre, a guest of John Cuzzo. Steve Wescott officially welcomed them to our fold.
Happy $$'s -

Jerry's many happy $$'s: He survived cancer, chemo, and radiation treatments. Surgery in one month.
John Cuzzo purchased wine and cheese from George who did a great job putting it together.
Denise - George Francis catered her event
Dave happy it's summertime in October and he's going on a trip next week to Tromso, Norway to take in the Aurora Borealis. Sundown there starts at 1PM in afternoon, Charles says bring a flashlight. He says he is planning on meeting with local Rotary group there.
John Roberts - happy Jerry’s here and that his football linemen helped him close up his pool, he hadn't asked them, they just showed up...what character!
Program of the day was a Wine Education presentation by Georges' Wine and Spirits Gallery owner George Del Gatto. He owns the store in Branchville, NJ. He used to work in Manhattan and had to be top of your game there to survive and compete. He also worked in the Windows of the World restaurant that was on top of the World Trade Center till 9/11/2001. Now he works for himself. His goal is to teach people how wine and food are associated and remove the intimidation factor.
Briefly there are 2 types of wine, Red and White, which are then broken down into light, medium and full body.
As you get fuller with your food you can drink the lighter wine. Also simply pare White with Seafood’s and Reds with Red meats, Steak / burgers. He gave us many tips, but basically he notes that there are no rules so just enjoy! When cooking with wine, he suggested using one you would enjoy drinking as it will taste better in your food. An old saying is "I cook with white wine and sometimes I even add it to my food!"
Last note but important one, a cork is not always necessary to store an open bottle, the twist on tops made today work just fine.
