April 25, 2018 - Rotary Club Meeting Minutes:  Linda McConville
 
John Roberts opened the meeting to 28 Newton Rotarians and our guests who included Kate, who is Denise Current’s future daughter-in-law, as well as our guest speaker, Liz Nuss.
 
Alden Welch led the group in prayer and Steve Westcott led the group in singing God Bless America. 
 
Charles Grotyohann greeted our guest on this rainy day with the promise of sunshine tomorrow!
 
Happy Dollars:
 
Bob Shankman was happy for his meal stating it was the best one ever at this restaurant.  Jan Pasculli was happy for Linda McConville’s retirement and stated she dedicated her career to people with developmental disabilities and Linda is an amazing and powerful woman (this writer is just reporting a short list of all the facts Jan provided to support her statements).  J  
 
Denise, Kate and Linda shopped at Shop Rite and delivered groceries to the local social services office for homeless individuals and families in Sussex County.  Denise used the funds raised from the fundraiser hosted by Denise at her home.  John Cuozzo was happy to meet relatives of family members who fought in the Battle at Gettysburg.
 
Barbara Miller is happy to be back from Florida where she attended Rotary meetings during her stay in Florida.  Barbara was happy to note there were no Florida Rotary meeting cancellations due to snow.  Liz Nuss was happy to be at the meeting.  Linda, apparently penniless, gave thanks to the club for the delicious cake and Jan’s lavish words of praise.  
 
Announcements:  Pam Lazzaro is having back surgery tomorrow.    Please keep her in your prayers.  The Club needs help covering for Pam and the many duties performed by Pam while she is recovering. 
 
Chris Wolverton reported this year’s Volleyball Tournament was a successful and fun evening.  The event raised $2,500 for the Gift of Life.   
 
Branding and Marketing Committee:  Bob Shankman reported the new committee would provide a report of their work at a future Rotary meeting.  The Committee met after today’s Rotary meeting as captured below.
 
George Kaiser reported the scholarship committee has started working on this year’s scholarships.  The scholarships will be presented to the recipients at the club meeting on June 6 which will be held at Bristol Glen. 
Program:  Liz Nuss from the State of NJ Department of Children and Families, Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) provided an informative presentation on the need for new foster and adoptive parents in New Jersey, particularly in Sussex County.  For information call them at 1-877-NJ FOSTER, 1-800—99 ADOPT, or visit their website (www.njadopt.org) .  Liz shared that many Sussex County children are placed out of Sussex County because they have no homes available in Sussex County.    There are currently 40-60 children in Sussex County in foster care services. 
 
50/50:  John Frank won the weekly pot of $10 … congratulations to John.  Unfortunately for John, he did not win the big pot valued at $196.
 
President John Roberts closed the meeting at 1:30 PM.
